Actress Wamiqa Gabbi’s “magical” acting journey

Actress Wamiqa plays Gujarati vegetarian Megha, who has a crush on a Chinese boy in Vishal Bhardwaj Mumbai Dragon. Meiyang Chang is her boyfriend, while Malaysian actor Yeo Yann Yann plays his mother. Nawazuddin Siddiqui also appears in the series as Sui’s neighbour and friend.

Wamiqa said, “I am delighted to have worked with Yeo Yann Yann. She is such a nice actor, and her character’s nuances provide such depth to her performance. When I watched Vishal Sir create magic, my heart burst with joy.   In this episode, Yann learned Hindi for eight months, and you cannot even tell that she doesn’t know Hindi. She is an outstanding actress. Modern Love Mumbai

Wamiqa says that Vishal Bhardwaj approached her about playing Megha while filming Khufiya, a spy thriller with Tabu and Ali Fazal. She has starred in many Hindi, Punjabi, Malayalam, and Telugu films, which is why Vishal picked her for Modern Love as a Gujarati character.

In her conversation with HT, she said: “Working with directors, he generally sees you in this particular mold. To have him look at me as someone entirely different and still believe that I could accomplish that was very satisfying to me. Because it was a Gujarati character, it surprised me even more because I am Punjabi. Wamiqa’s character Megha is described in the series as a vegetarian Dayan (witches), but she rejects this description.  She replied, “Yeah, Megha is a vegetarian Dayan”. It’s strange that I became vegetarian 1.5 to 2 years ago, so Megha wasn’t a Dayan to me. Megha is an incredibly free person, and I relate to her because of the attitude that my parents exhibit.

Thanks to her open-minded parents, she is able to offer career and life advice to her own boyfriend. Instead, Chang’s character comes from a different, more conservative family where his mother is extremely narrow-minded, so Megha serves as a catalyst to bring them together.”She appeared in small roles in Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal, Mausam, and Bittoo Boss before landing the lead role in the teen drama sixteen in 2013. She will also appear in Vikramaditya Motwane’s period drama Jubilee. In addition to being useful in her career, the roles she played in her personal life helped her. Modern Love Mumbai

According to her, she was living a dream right now, working with the directors and people she most admires. It wasn’t something I did, it was just a result of me improving myself.  While I was filming for Jubilee, Khufiya, or Mai, I found that the type of role I played helped me in my personal life. I had a strange coincidence that I got the right scenes for my shows because of situations I was going through in my personal life so when I say it was magical, I mean there were so many beautiful coincidences taking place as well. While filming Jubilee, she explained, “The character I played was such a strong-headed character. I wouldn’t call myself a strong character.” Whenever you play a character, you have to understand why she is the way she is, why she is so strong and powerful emotionally, and on top of that, justifying all that for her helped me gain some strength in myself. While there were times when I could have been so weak, my character kept me strong throughout those times.

Ultimately, Wamiqa attributes her success to her father, who is also a writer. He is the sole reason for her success.  He is a member of the Punjabi branch of the Sahitya Academy and has written a number of stories as well as his first book of poetry. I accompanied him to Tagore Theatre and Kala Bhavan to watch plays.

Through my father, I began to appreciate artistic experiences as a result of my grandfather’s military service, as well as his talent as a singer.  Therefore, whatever my life is today, and what I want to do with my life, I could only do that because of my father. Because he always made sure that I felt free in my life. There should be more men like my father. Modern Love Mumbai
